INTRODUCTION

Performance evaluation is procedure to measure an employee’s work results against the company job objective. It is the formal procedure to measure the job capabilities and their potentials. Depend of the company administration regulations this can done in formal way or informal way. But regularized and systematically evaluation will avoid the chance of bias and snap judgments and it help to upgrade the industry standards.

According to Armstrong (2015), Performance management system effectiveness (PMSE) is the measure of alignment between employee and organizational objectives.

 

CONTENT

Employee evaluation helps remind employees that their responsibilities and what their top management expect from them in the workplace. It provides top management with information to use when making administration decision, such as promotions, increments, bonus pays and layoffs.

In traditional evaluation method is the manager or supervisor writes to top management about the employee’s performances and behaviors as well as shortcomings. Some organizations will ask the Manager and the employee’s to evaluate their self and agree about the report or to submit the self evaluation sheet. It calls as “self evaluation”.

By doing this employee can influence the top management about their hard work and commitment, how difficulties faced to achieve set goals and let their top management know all these things.

In many organizations with a formal employees evaluation process, employees are ranked and rated and compare with other employees. This system is very useful to improve the company productivity. This evaluation system should not be aimed at harassing the employees and they are playing major role in achieving organizational goals. On the other hand top management should be made aware that these evaluations are aimed to improving performance, organizational effectiveness and to accomplish organizational goals.

The following main objectives of employee performance appraisal are:

i. To identify employee weaknesses and strengths

ii. To identify and meet training needs and aspirations

iii. To generate significant, relevant and valid information about employee

iv. To provide inputs to increments of rewards, transfers, promotion and salary administration.

v. To help in improving employee’s performance if he is not found to be suitable during the review period.

vi. To create a desirable culture and tradition in the organization.

vii. To help in planning career development and human resources planning based on potentialities.

 CONCLUSION

Final the performance evaluation process is two types of corrective action may be recommended by the evaluator. One is positive evaluation. It means salary increase or promotion if actual performance of employee. Second is negative .It means coaching and counseling may be done if the performance is poor. If necessary, employees may be deputed for formal training courses.
