WHAT ARE THE MAJOR GOVERNMENT ACTS SHOULD HUMAN RESOURCE PERSONNEL KNOW?

    Different countries have different Laws regarding the employees. Human resource Manager is totally responsible for managing their employees within the legal frame.  If any company violates the local/international employee laws it may lead to industrial disputes, financial losses, reputation damage, waste of time etc...

Specially while preparing letter of appointments, HR personals should know about their government rules and regulations regarding employees and while delegating job roles these legal knowledge is crucial. Further when they are going to deal with compensation and benefit this knowledge will help seriously.

The under mentioned major Sri Lanka government acts will crucially affects on any organization in Sri Lanka and for any reason no one can overrule it.

1)    National minimum wage of workers Act 03 of 1016

As per this Act National minimum daily wage of a worker is Rs.500/= and minimum monthly wage is Rs.12500/=.

2)    Maternity benefit ordinance No.32 of 1939 and amendments

3)    Employment of women, Young persons and children Act No 47 of 1956

As per this Act age limits of child employment and described about women worker deployment regulations.

4) Shop and office Employees (Regulation of employment & Remuneration) Act No 19                          1954 and amendments.

This is describing about the leave, salary, and other benefits about the employees.

 

4)    Termination of employment of workmen (Special Provision ) Act No 45 of 1971

5)     Payment of Gratuity Act No 12 of 1983 and amendments to this Act 1983

6)    Employee Provident Fund Act No 15 of 1958 and amendments to this Act 1958

7)    Employee Trust Fund Act No 46 of 1980 and amendments to this Act 1980

8)    Wages Board Ordinance No 27 of 1941 and amendments to this Ordinance 1941

9)    Trade Union Ordinance No 14 of 1935 and amendments to this Ordinance 1935

10) Factories Ordinance No 45 of 1942 and amendments to this Ordinance 1942

11) Workmen’s Compensation Ordinance No 19 of 1934 and amendments

12) Industrial Disputes Act No 43 of 1950 and amendments to this Act 1950

13) I.L.O Standard

 

Ignoring or disrespecting any of the above Law will warrant to having serious repercussions to the organization. Therefore any organization will look for knowledgeable HR personnel to full fill their HR positions.
